TOPIC #10 Peanut Butter

Peanut Butter

My tongue got stuck one fine day.
Just before I went out to play.

It went up but wouldn’t come down.
I felt it glue… to something brown.

Tasty it was, that’s why I tried
To scrape it off, to make it slide.

It would not go. It stayed right there,
And now my tongue is glued up there!

To sort out this problem I needed some help.
I panicked, I wiggled. I let out a YELP!

My sister, who was sitting right there
Said she had once got it stuck in her hair.

I said “GOT YOUR TONGUE STUCK IN YOUR HAIR?”
“That would surely give me a scare!”

She rolled her eyes, went back to her room.
I thought “This girl should fly on her broom”.

I needed a plan that would help me that day.
I reached for the milk that would wash it away.

I swished it around, but it wanted to stay STUCK!
I was not having much fun... or very much luck.

Perhaps cow milk was not the right stuff.
I needed something stronger for a problem so rough.

My sister saw I was about to give tears
She must have once had my very same fears…

Of having a tongue glued so tight it was wrong
Having my mouth not work for so... very... long.

She rolled her eyes and gave a big smirk.
Her brain had a plan and she went to work…

The swiftness of her resolve was scary at best.
I hoped her idea would give me some rest…

From the trouble I must have certainly caused
By eating peanut butter from the jar, I should have paused…

And made a sandwich from this butter and bread
Then added jelly, which would make a good spread.

Pointing to the table, she said “lay right there!”
I did as commanded; she-opened-my-mouth-and-gave-a-big-stare.

(pause)

I’ve often wondered what she discovered in there that day,
And of how my tongue recovered without any delay.

(pause)

She solved my big problem, for which I am so glad.
I decided that my sister is not… really… so… bad.
