TOPIC #7 TEXTING GRANDPA

Texting Grandpa

Each little finger, using the phone
Texting with Grandpa, who today is alone.

Grandma is off helping someone in need
She is always on the go, she uses her speed.

To help every person who crosses her path
She is so quick, she must do it with math!

She cannot bring Grandpa while she’s well on her way
"He’d be a distraction, He’d make me delay"

So she’s out and about,
Grandma’s helpful no doubt…

Grandpa, on the other hand
Is probably thinking of something GRAND!

But maybe, just maybe, he might feel some sad
Perhaps I can do something to help him feel GLAD.

I think that my Grandpa can use some help
So I’ll give him a topic that will make him yelp!

Tapping the letters, one at a time.
Hoping he’ll read them, then make a rhyme,

To make me feel so happy,
My Grandpa has always been snappy,

Composing rhymes that sound so goofy,
Making sounds that seem so spoofy.

He does not plan the rhymes you know.
We assign him a topic and let him go.

He sits there with a funny face
The words come running out in a great big race.

He writes them down as fast as he can
He just writes them quickly… without any plan.

As the verses are written, sometimes he is smitten
By the clever twists and turns

The poem happens and it sometimes makes
Him wonder why it always takes

A grandchild or someone small
To cause his brain to think at all.

Regardless of the reason why
We have some fun and always try

To give Grandpa topics that will keep us clappin’
And give him topics that will make poems happen.

He makes them work, he makes them flow.
Grandpa loves me, THAT…I…KNOW!
